Street Cred
I have been watchin' what some of my peeps have been writing on this and other blogs about my ability to pull of this gangsta image. Seems like there is some doubt (see poll to right) that I walk the gangsta walk. There is something most don't understand however ... it is not the new me, it is me. Like Ray Liotta in Goodfellas ... As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster(sta).
There is one thing I apparently seem to be lacking for many of you out there that a playlist containing Vanilla Ice and a pink doo rag can't give me ... and that is street cred. For those of you not used to freestylin' or rollin' down the street ... urban dictionary (that's right ... this site don't use wickapedia) defines street cred as:
"Commanding a level of respect in an urban environment due to experience in or knowledge of issues affecting those environments"
So I am going to start proving to you all that I have all the street credibility I need to pull this off. In fact, just the other day it was just me and my peeps (J-Dogg, McDogg and MikeyDogg) crusin around my 'hood listening to some slammin tunes when MikeyDogg deicided that we should roll our windows down and let the rest of our neighbors take in the lovely sounds my woofers were emitting. That is when it happened. As I rolled up to the bank to get some cash money, MikeyDogg (he is 10) spotted a couple lady doggs headin' in his direction. He let out a fairly loud and somewhat manly "Hey Ladies". The ladies, confused as to who was giving them a shout out, assumed that it was I and shot me a dirty look so piercing that it would have dropped ordinary folks dead in their tracks. But not this gangsta.
Why the evil stink eye from the ladies you ask? Why would they not swoon over the gangsta and his peeps? Because MikeyDogg is new at this thing and happened to pick a bad time to start hittin' on the lady doggs. Why? Because one looked like this:
And the other one ... I presume her mother ... could have been eating a cake that looked like this:
So as you can see, they may have had a reason to hate the playa (but not the game). My peeps are helping me build up plenty of street cred. Just maybe a little misguided.
Holla if you hear me!
